Based on research done at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, the concept underlying Proneuron's efforts is modulation of the Immune Privilege, a natural mechanism that regulates the immune system within the central nervous system of mammals. The company is currently carrying out Phase I clinical trials of autologous activated macrophages to regenerate nerves after spinal cord injury.
